This is for the class of 2021

What’s your goal after graduating from college? What are you looking for in your life?

It’s getting close to graduate from college. Do you feel nervous? Do you still confused about what kind of job you do in the future? Have you lost your way? You’re not sure about your choice. After you take the job, you may still think “Am I right about this?” Believe me, I feel the same way. Because in the end of June, I’m going to become a new graduate. It’s normal that you have these feelings and thoughts right now and it’s totally to be okay.

A few days ago, I saw a video which means a lot for me. I decided to share with you guys! Apple CEO Tim Cook gave a speech to the graduates, and he urged graduates to find their own North Star. Tim Cook told us the process of discovering ourselves, of inventing ourselves, of reinventing ourselves is about to begin in earnest. It’s finding your own values and committing to live by them. Life is a journey. Finding your North Star makes you on a right path. You’ll need to make a lot of choices when you are traveling. These are my favorite parts of the speech.

“We believe that a company that has values and acts on them can really change the world. And an individual can too. That can be you. That must be you. Graduates, your values matter. They are your North Star.”

“No matter what you do next, the world needs your energy. Your passion. Your impatience with progress. Don’t shrink from risk. And tune out those critics and cynics. History rarely yields to one person, but think, and never forget, what happens when it does. That can be you. That should be you. That must be you.”

I know most commencements had been canceled. Most of you are disappointed, so do I. Actually, I think the class of 2021 is unlucky because of the pandemic. We’re forced to accept a lot of changes in our life and we can’t do anything about it. Some of you might be pessimistic about finding work. Others might be frustrated because their arrangement has been disrupted. Even though we’re unlucky, we still need to keep going.

I’d like to say keeping your curiosity and being suspect are the most important thing. We have to figure out for ourselves what is right and what is truth because no one can help you find your North Star but yourself. We just have to take 100% responsibility. See things in a different way and I believe that you can do it!

Last but not least, I wish you all the best. To find who you are in your life and keep your eyes on your North Star!
